MAST to expand Superyacht security services and training for owners of smaller vessels - as increased operating range takes more yachts into unexplored areas

Cannes International Boat & Yacht Show 2013

Maritime Asset Security and Training (MAST) Ltd, the maritime security and training specialist, has launched a new security umbrella service which will now offer Superyacht grade security services, training and systems to the owners of smaller yachts from 16m – 40m, as well as supporting the ship yards, designers, dealers, marinas, management and maintenance companies involved.

The move is in response to increasing demand for sophisticated security solutions from the yachting community, as yachts with longer range allows owners to explore or berth in more remote territories to benefit from a wider spectrum of cruising grounds.

According to MAST, owners and operators of mid-sized yachts are now able to sail further from their home marinas. In Asia, for instance, exploration around the Tropics was restricted by the lack of fuel away from the traditional cruising grounds. The popularity of longer range vessels (under 40m) is now opening up areas such as Myanmar, Borneo and Cambodia – to date, relatively unexplored territories for the smaller luxury yachts.

The newly proportioned service is being offered through MAST’s existing global infrastructure that currently provides an all-encompassing security umbrella for Superyachts, supporting the Owner, Master and Management Company. The security umbrella covers flag, state and code compliance, audit management and risk assessment for the yacht and passage planning, crew training and risk awareness, VIP personal protection, armed transit escort, 24 hour global help line and 24/7 monitoring.  All services are enhanced by MAST Technology’s intelligent, integrated security systems and hardware.

This new security service is, in essence, an adjustable version of the MAST Superyacht Security Consultancy proportioned to suit the size of yacht. MAST Technology, the specialist yacht division team, is currently working on a 25 metre yacht in Italy, installing security systems and creating the support structure that would traditionally only been seen on far larger vessels.

To lead the development of this new Security Solution, MAST has just appointed Iain Davie as Head of Sales, MAST’s Yacht Division. He said: "I'm delighted to join MAST at this exciting time in its development. Owners of any sized yacht have invested heavily in a lifestyle of luxurious exploration in waters that can offer them greater solitude at anchor. That lifestyle has to be protected, as we currently do for many Superyacht owners. Let’s face it, peace of mind is the ultimate luxury, and that applies to any sized yacht”.

Iain Davie continues, "Regardless of size, yachts naturally attract unwanted attention. If anything, yachts under 40m can actually be at greater risk as smaller crew numbers creates opportunity for intrusion and petty theft, while less experienced or locally trained crews can have widely differing approaches to securing yachts and their owners.”

Iain has a wide range of experience, having held sales roles for Sunseeker dealers in the UK, Malta and Thailand, and has been the project manager for new build custom yachts in Europe.   Iain also served as a commercial and private yacht Captain, delivery Captain and worked within the after sales warranty and maintenance of yachts.

MAST will be showcasing its new yacht Security Solutions to key clients at the Cannes International Boat and Yacht Show from 10th – 13th September, Southampton Boat show 15th – 22nd September and also at the Monaco Yacht Show 25th – 28th September 2013.
