Regulation; The key to maintaining standards

MAST is a member of The British Association of Private Security Companies (BAPSC) an organisation that works to promote the interests and regulate the activities of UK based businesses that provide armed defensive security services in countries outside the UK.

Leading UK private security firms recognised that there was an urgent need to raise standards and advocate self regulation. At their behest, the association was established in February 2006.

BAPSC aims to raise the standards of operation of its members and the work practices of this emerging industry and ensure compliance with the rules and principles of international humanitarian law and human rights standards.

BAPSC key aims and objectives include:

  • to build and promote open and transparent relations with UK Government departments and relevant International Organisations;
  • to promote compliance with UK values and interests and with the laws of the countries in which its Members operate;
  • to issue guidance on the substance of and the need to comply with international legal statutes, with due regard for ethical practice and standards of governance, balancing the provision of security services with the legitimate concerns of those that are or may be effected by the delivery of those services;
  • to require that Members meet the standards set for Membership of the Association and that such standards are maintained for continuing Membership.
